Everyone wants to know how much it will cost to get into high performance radio control and combat.   The initial cost is dependent on choices you will have to make as you get the basics which include radio, charger, batteries, plane and hardware.

Post #1 on this thread on is a list of the things you will need to get started in radio control. I have attached links to each of the items so you can see where to get them, what they look like and how much they cost.

The initial set up will usually cost $400 to $500 but this is for the things that you will need with every plane you own and the first plane.  Additional high performance planes may cost as little as $50 and as much as you want to spend depending on size, technology and batteries.

The cost has dropped significantly in the last 2 years because of the drastic drop in prices of the electronics and batteries.  the main reason for the price drop is the Asian manufacturers have become very competitive in the manufacturing and sales market.

The radio I recommend is the Spektrum DX6i. It has features that were only found on $500 radios and is the latest technology only costing $180.  Electronic speed controls that used to cost me $70 now can be purchased for $14.  Motors that cost $65 now can be replaced with motors that cost $6.  High performance batteries that used to cost $50 can now be replaced with batteries costing $15.

Knowledge of what works also will save you big dollars.   My shopping listis based on an enoconomical but high performance groups of products that work.  You can spend hundreds to get a charger that will charge one lipo battery at a time or less than a hundred for a charger that will charge four batteries at once.  If you look at the list you will see two chargers I recommend and find links for more information.

We hope you find the list informative and useful.  It is the list I give the new flyers that come for assistance and information.
